What age group is Sunday Vedic School for?
We accept children from age 5 to 15 years, divided into three progressive levels according to age and reading ability.
How can I purchase the recommended books?
Recommended books are listed on our Books page with links to buy them online. We recommend having books ready before the first day of class.
What is taught in the Vedic School?
Our year-long curriculum introduces children to Krishna's pastimes, the Bhagavad-gītā, Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, Sanskrit prayers, devotional songs, Vaishnava festivals, etiquette, and practical life lessons rooted in the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition.
When are classes held?
Classes are held every Sunday from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM at Shri Govindaji Gaudiya Matha. Parents are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early for check-in.
How are students assigned to classes?
Students are generally placed according to their age, reading ability, and prior Vedic education. Teachers may recommend a different level if it better supports the child's learning.
What should my child bring to class?
Students should bring their recommended books (if applicable), a notebook, pencils, and a positive attitude. Any additional materials needed for special activities will be communicated in advance.
Do parents stay during class?
Parents are welcome to remain on the temple premises during class. Many families attend the temple program while their children participate in Vedic School.
What if my child misses a class?
If a class is missed, parents can review the weekly lesson summary and learning objectives on the Parent Portal (when available). Teachers may also provide guidance on topics to review at home.
Will there be homework?
Occasionally. Students may receive simple reading assignments, memorization of prayers or verses, or family discussion activities to reinforce what they learned in class.
How will I know what my child is learning?
Parents receive updates about the curriculum, important announcements, holidays, and special activities. The Parent Portal will also provide access to lesson information and attendance as new features are introduced.
Are there opportunities for children to participate in temple programs?
Yes! Throughout the year, students are encouraged to participate in festivals, kīrtana, drama performances, Bhagavad-gītā recitation, Janmāṣṭamī programs, and other devotional activities.
Can my child join after the school year has started?
Yes. New students are welcome throughout the year, subject to space availability. Teachers will help them integrate into the current curriculum.
Is there a dress code?
While there is no strict dress code, modest and respectful attire appropriate for a temple environment is encouraged. Traditional Indian attire is welcome but not required.
How do you communicate class cancellations or schedule changes?
Parents will be notified through email and other communication channels whenever there is a holiday, cancellation, makeup class, or important announcement.
